  • Responsibilities

    General Description and Essential Functions

    • In addition to the duties of a specimen processor, under the supervision and control of a Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist may perform the following duties:
    • Employee must oversee and ensure Federal, State, HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, and Company Policy Compliance for the Processing department.
    • Employee must coordinate and work closely with other Department Supervisors, Account Managers, and staff to trouble shoot, and improve processes/issues.
    • Provide support to the specimen processing staff by maintaining a safe, productive, and quality effective work environment.
    • Communicate with clients when errors occur.
    • Employee must provide appropriate training, and competency assessments of staff
    • Provide clear documentation for retraining, quality improvement, or employee counseling issues.
    • Responsible for overseeing scheduling, training, and competency assessments of the specimen processing staff.
    • Responsible for keeping specimen error rate in established SHUSA guidelines
    • Employee must conduct monthly meetings with subordinate staff to facilitate communication, and adherence of policies, within the Western Division.
    • Employee must complete at performance appraisals due in the applicable quarter, month or established guideline
    • Communicate with Lab Operations Director to resolve interdepartmental issues and/or improvement initiatives.
    • Must carry out the supervisory functions of all staff members including, but not limited to, scheduling, performance appraisals, employee recognition, coaching, interviewing, warnings, etc.
    • Participates in and supports all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement endeavors for the laboratory, as applicable
    • In addition to an employee’s typical work schedule, this position requires employees to work weekends, split shifts, overtime and holidays if needed by the Company. Other duties may apply as necessary.


    Physical Capabilities

    • Light physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
    • Frequent, prolonged standing/sitting/walking
    • Frequent use of telephone and fax
    • Occasional travel required to interact with Division personnel and/or attend meetings, educational training


    Work Experience and Educational Requirements

    • Two-Five years Laboratory Experience; Zero-Two years of increasing responsibility and supervising experience preferred
    • Ability to work the computer system, analyzer machines, telephones, copy and fax machines.
    • If employee is required to operate a company vehicle for the performance of their duties, they must meet applicable company insurance guidelines, including a DMV record comparable to that of a Transportation Courier.
    • High school graduate or GED required. Associates of Science Degree or Bachelors of Science degree from accredited college or university preferred.
