Job Title:                      Histology Assistant

Reports To:                 Pathology Supervisor

Status:                          Non Exempt




General Description and Essential Functions


  • Responsible for the proper accessioning and log in of patient specimens
  • Will assist with Pathology phone calls
  • Responsible for evening Histology duties including:
  • Sorting tissue cassettes and loading onto tissue processors
  • Responsible for printing daily worklists
  • Staining and cover slipping slides
  • Pulling appropriate blocks and slides for additional stains
  • Responsible for changing out reagents on stainers
  • Responsible for preparing slide send outs to UCLA
  • Responsible for printing TC derm labels and reports
  • Assist with slide refile when time permits
  • Answering the phone in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner within established guidelines
  • Adhere to all protocols as described in CCPL’s Policy and Procedure manual as related to job duties
  • Participates in and supports all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement endeavors for the laboratory, as applicable
  • In addition to an employee’s typical work schedule, this position requires employees to work weekends, overtime, split shifts, and holidays if needed by the Company. Other duties may apply as necessary. Physical Capabilities
  • Light physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Frequent, prolonged standing/sitting/walking
  • Must be able to see, hear, and respond adequately
  • Frequent use of telephone and fax
  • Occasional travel required to interact with Division personnel and/or attend meetings, educational training  
  • Work Experience and Educational Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • (B.S.) Bachelor’s of Science degree from four-year college or university preferred.
