Performs pick-up and delivery service of test samples, supplies, and reports within a specified route; Performs pick-up of biohazard waste (sharp container) and keeps an accurate log regarding pick up and disposal of such waste. Ensures proper packing, labeling, and transport of items to and from Laboratory to maintain specimen integrity; Acts as primary contact between the Laboratory and its clients while carrying out service functions; Maintains accurate route sheets for audit of reports, supplies, and specimens including time and number of stops; Typically is assigned vehicle, however may be required to carry out tasks via foot, bicycle, or public conveyance; Will follow Physician’s Automated Laboratory, Inc. Vehicular Driver Safety Standards, SOP# 9.095, and applicable governmental motor vehicle operation laws and regulations; Performs daily safety and operational check on the vehicle typically assigned and reports problems to the supervisor; Maintains contact with Transportation Supervisor, Laboratory, and draw sites via two-way radio or other communication device; Other duties may apply as necessary.
Must have a valid California Driver’s License (minimum Class C). No citations, within three years, are allowed for entry-level position. Two moving violations are allowed, within a three-year time period, once employed. More than two violations, within a three-year time period, will disqualify an employee from this position. To satisfy this position, a courier must be able to lift up to 35 pounds, spend up to 50% of their shift walking, spend up to 50% of their shift sitting, climb stairs, and work indoors and out in varying weather climates. In addition to an employees typical work schedule, this position requires employees to work weekends, split shifts, and holidays if needed by the Company. The Transportation Supervisor will assign work schedules.
